چکیده

The Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) is one of the most important components for highfrequency transceivers. In this work IBM SiGe 0.5μm technology is used to design an on-chip VCO and MCM-D technology is used to design the VCO with off-chip varactors, inductors and capacitors. Theses results are measured at centre frequency of 2.5GHz and with a voltage supply of 3.3volts. The phase noise of the on-chip VCO is –100.5 dBc/Hz at 100kHz-offset frequency. It also has an output power of 7.6 dBm. The oscillator core consumes 34mA and the output buffer drew 6.23mA. The voltage supply is 3.3 volts. The chip size is 0.5x1.2 mm. The off-chip design has a phase noise of -103.1 dBc/Hz at 100kHz-offset frequency. The on-chip VCO with extracted parasitic has a phase noise of –93.08 dBc/Hz at 100kHz-offset frequency. The tuning range for the on-chip VCO solution is 2.37 to 2.55GHz.

Design of Low Phase Noise Low Power CMOS Phase Locked Loops

Phase locked loop (PLL) is one of the most critical devices in modern electronic systems. PLLs are widely used as clock generator or frequency synthesis in communication systems, computers, radio and other electronic applications. Phase noise represents the phase variations of a PLL output signal and is the most important characteristic of PLLs because it reflects the stability of PLL systems. ...

Chip-Package Co-Design of a 4.7 GHz VCO

Future wireless communication applications require low-power and highly integrated transceiver solutions. The integration of the RF front-end poses a great challenge, in particular, as traditional implementations require a large number of external passive components. “Single-package” integration of complete transceivers based on an MCM-D technology with integrated passives is presented in this ...

SIMULATION OF 2.4 GHz LOW-POWER CMOS LC QUADRATURE VOLTAGE CONTROLLED OSCILLATOR

This paper presents the simulation analysis of a 2.4 GHz Quadrature Voltage Controlled Oscillator (QVCO), for low-power, low-voltage applications. Cross coupled LC VCO (Inductor-Capacitor Voltage Controlled Oscillator) topology is utilized to realize QVCO. With the passive coupling achieved from the MOS transistors, power consumption is minimized while maintaining a small chip area. The variabl...

A Micromachined RF Low Phase Noise Voltage-Controlled Oscillator For Wireless Communications

An RF low phase noise voltage-controlled oscillator is implemented with micromachined IC-compatible variable capacitors and three-dimensional coil inductor. Unlike conventional on-chip passive devices, the micromachined variable capacitors achieve a high-Q value above 60 at 1 GHz with a 15% tuning range for a nominal 2 pF capacitance with 3 V tuning voltage. Three-dimensional inductors minimize...
